    What is Restorative Dental Treatment?

Restorative dental treatment, also known as dental diseases treatment, means the repair and treatment of losses in dental tissue. These losses may occur as a result of decay and fractures in the tooth tissue, or as a result of mineral loss of tooth tissue as a result of a chemical factor without bacterial factor. Restorative Dental Treatment in Turkey FAQ is the best solution teeth decay.

    Why Cavities Occurred?

Tooth decay is defined as the destruction of tooth hard tissues caused by acids released by bacteria as a result of fermentation of dietary carbohydrates. Dental caries is a pathology that occurs with the combination of many microbiological, genetic, immunological, behavioral and environmental factors. In other words, many factors must come together for caries formation.

    Is Tooth Decay Preventable?

Decay can occur in different parts of the tooth. There are many detection methods available today to detect these caries. In these regions with different morphology, dental caries also shows different progression areas and speeds. In addition, factors such as the structure and rate of saliva, some systemic diseases, eating habits affect the progression of caries. The stage of tooth decay directly affects the treatment planning. The restorative dentist knows at which stage the caries should be treated and offers a treatment plan to the patient accordingly. New caries can be prevented by brushing twice a day, flossing and using mouthwash. Every 6 months, these initial caries are checked by a dentist.

    How is Tooth Abrasions Prevented?

Tooth abrasions can be caused by many etiological factors. Toothbrush-induced abrasion is the most common cause of abrasion among patients. In addition, abrasion caused by acidic foods and abrasion types caused by the contact of teeth with each other are also common. As a result of tooth abrasion, the enamel tissue in the top layer of the tooth is worn and the layer we call dentin appears. The emergence of the dentin layer causes tooth sensitivity. The specialist determines the treatment to be applied according to the level of abrasion. In line with the recommendations of the specialist physician who determines which factor the abrasion is caused by, new abrasions that may occur can be prevented.

What Are The Procedures Performed In Restorative Dental Treatment?

Restorative dental treatment has more than one treatment option. Restoration options are determined by the physician according to the amount of loss in tooth tissue. Direct or indirect composite applications, smile design, teeth whitening, dentin sensitivity removal, vital, that is, the treatments required to maintain the vitality of the tooth are within the field of restorative dental treatment.

    Aims of Restorative Dental Treatment

The aim of restorative dental treatment is to fix the patient’s aesthetic and functional loss. It also aims to protect the hard tissues of the tooth. Another aim of restorative dental treatment is to maintain the vitality of the tooth. The treatments required to maintain the vitality of the tooth vary according to the proximity of the tooth to the nerve tissue or, in other words, the amount of dentin tissue remaining in the tooth. The specialist physician ensures the continuation of the vitality of the tooth by choosing materials that will stimulate the regeneration of the tooth hard tissue.

In cases where the vitality of the tooth cannot be maintained, it is referred to a root canal treatment specialist. The root canal treated tooth may be fragile and weak. In this case, it is necessary to strengthen the superstructure of the treated tooth in order not to break it. Among the treatment options, there is also a white filling material that can be used especially for the restoration of root canal treated teeth, which is strengthened by adding various materials.  By using these special materials, the restoration of root canal treated teeth can be treated without coating (prosthetic crown).

Materials Used In Restorative Dental Treatment

The products used in the restorative dental treatment are biocompatible materials that provide aesthetic appearance and do not harm the tooth. The fact that the materials used are biocompatible allows the restoration to be made easily for patients of advanced age or patients with chronic diseases.

    Tooth Fillings

Depending on the amount of loss seen in the tooth tissue, the physician can make the filling with a method we call the direct method, which is done immediately at the patient’s bedside, or with a method we call the indirect method, which is prepared using the measurement method and the filling must be bonded.

    Amalgam Fillings

Today, composite fillings called white fillings are preferred as a direct method option. Amalgam, i.e. grey fillings, are no longer preferred because they do not create an aesthetic appearance.

    Composite Fillings

Composite fillings, i.e. white fillings, can be used in both front and back teeth. In cases where the gaps between two teeth are too small to add another tooth, that is, in cases called diastema, these gaps can be closed with a white filling selected according to the tooth colour without damaging the tooth tissue. In addition, in the fractures seen in the front teeth, the original form of the tooth is regained with white filling selected according to the tooth colour. In the front teeth with deformity, it is restored with white filling based on the symmetrical tooth and an aesthetic appearance is given.

In the posterior group teeth, after the decay tissue is cleaned, the tooth is restored to function by white filling up to the amount of lost tooth tissue. Treatment may vary according to the level of caries progression in the tooth tissue.

    Inley ve Onley Fillings

Indirect restorations include inlay and onlay fillings, which are named according to the amount of tooth tissue loss. Inlay and onlay restorations are a more conservative treatment option than crown restoration in teeth with large material loss. After the examination by the restorative dental treatment specialist, the area where the filling will be made is measured and the filling prepared in the laboratory environment is adhered to the tooth using various materials in the next session.

Laminate veneers, also known as leaf porcelain, is an aesthetic procedure that makes the teeth look whiter and eliminates dental defects. It is a procedure that involves removing a very thin layer from the tooth surface and bonding leaf-shaped plates made of special porcelain material instead. It is an aesthetic treatment that can be preferred in the treatment of tooth discolouration caused by hereditary causes or antibiotic discolouration, in the treatment of tooth cavities called diastema, in the treatment of tooth fractures.

    CAD/CAM Systems

These fillings can be made in a single session with digital systems, which are becoming increasingly popular today. With CAD/CAM systems consisting of a computer and camera system, indirect fillings are created quickly and the patient’s tooth is restored to function more quickly in a single session. White filling (composite) or porcelain filling is used for these systems.

With the loss of enamel or cemented, the dentin tissue that opens to the oral environment can become sensitive to thermal, chemical and tactile stimuli. This sensitivity is in the form of short-term, sharp pain. It is a condition that disrupts the patient’s daily life. It is usually seen in the area between the tooth and the gum where the tooth tissue is exposed. The restorative dental therapist can evaluate these areas and treat the sensitivity by making a tooth-coloured, aesthetic white filling or by using various agents developed for this purpose.

    Tooth Whitening

Another treatment used in restorative dental treatment is tooth whitening. External discoloration and internal discoloration of the teeth can be treated by using various agents. While external discolorations are treated by using various abrasion methods, it is necessary to use various agents for internal discolorations. The whitening method to be used is preferred according to whether the tooth is alive or lifeless. There are many bleaching products on the market. However, it is necessary to consult a dentist for a more effective and controlled whitening.

The restorative dental treatment specialist determines the agent and method to be used after performing the necessary examinations and finding it suitable for treatment. In line with the color of the teeth and the patient’s expectations, in addition to office-type whitening, home-type whitening is added to the treatment, bringing the patient’s teeth to the desired whitening level. The biggest advantage of having teeth whitening performed by a specialist is to ensure color control and to treat the sensitivity that may be seen after the whitening process.

    Smile Design

Smile design is the process of planning an appropriate aesthetic dental treatment and visualising it in order to give an aesthetic appearance in line with the patient’s expectations of the existing incompatibilities in the mouth. While designing, many factors such as the harmony of the patient’s face, smile, teeth and gums are taken into consideration. Digital smile design is popular recently. Using different applications, the physician can show the patient the new smile to be gained after the treatment at the beginning of the treatment and rearrange the patient’s smile through the design in line with the patient’s expectations.
